Keeping Slack updated ensures you have the latest features, performance improvements, and security fixes. Follow the steps below to update Slack on your Mac.

Step 1: Enter the Administrator Password

When Slack downloads an update, a pop-up window will appear asking for your administrator password.

What to do:

  1. Type in your Mac’s administrator password.

  2. Click OK.

*Note* If you do not know the administrator password please reach out to the Helpdesk for assistance.

Step 2: Open the Slack Menu

Once the update is ready to apply:

  1. Go to the menu bar at the top of your screen.

  2. Click Slack in the toolbar options (next to the Apple logo).

Step 3: Restart to Apply Update

From the dropdown menu, select Restart to Apply Update.

Step 4: Relaunch Slack

Slack will close automatically and then restart. Once it reopens, you’ll be running the latest version.

That’s it! Slack is now updated on your Mac.
