Preface
Bit Warden is Wycliffe USA’s preferred password management application for those choosing to use it, but is not directly supported by Wycliffe USA. Using Bit Warden products is a personal choice.
The reason why you may want to move your passwords out of Chrome is the fact that Chrome, and other browsers, do not encrypt or offer any type of security for the passwords that it auto-saves and manages for you. Because of this, it is very easy to steal your passwords from almost any web browser.
To remedy this, it’s encouraged to use better password management software, such as Bitwarden or others.
This document is for those who have already signed up for a Bitwarden account, and are wanting to migrate their Chrome password list over to Bitwarden.
For those still needing to setup an account, or to install any of Bitwarden’s products, please visit:
Migrating Chrome Passwords
In Chrome:
In Chrome, navigate to this address: chrome://password-manager/settings
This will take you straight to the Chrome Password Manager Settings page.
On this page, you may want to toggle OFF the setting for Offer to save passwords and passkeys.
Towards the bottom of the page, you will see the Export passwords section and a Download file button.
Click the Download file button, and save the csv file somewhere.
NOTE: Remember to go back and delete this file when you are finished importing it! This file is in plain text, and contains all of your account logins and passwords.
After clicking the Download file button, you will be prompted to enter your Windows password.
For those who work in the Orlando office, this will be your regular network login.
For those who work remotely, this will be your Windows password, the one you use when your turn your computer on.
In Bitwarden:
Log in to Bitwarden on the web.
Once logged in, on the left hand menu, select Tools→ Import Data
On the Import Data page:
Under Data, select Chrome (csv) from the drop down menu.
Under Select the Import File, click on the Choose File button, find and select the csv password list you saved in the previous steps above.
Last, click on the Import Data button on the bottom of the page.
It should have imported all of your passwords into Bitwarden.
