Purpose and Scope
The purpose of this document is to explain how to add your Wycliffe Google Account to Twilio Authy on your smartphone for use with 2-Step Verification.
This document will assume you have already set up an authentication method with a security key on your Wycliffe USA Google account, or you have called the Wycliffe HelpDesk for assistance in logging in to setup 2-Step verification with your smartphone.
This document will only cover how to add your Wycliffe Google Account to Twilio Authy.
This document assumes you have a smartphone with internet access ready to use for this process. This document also assumes you have already installed Twilio Authy on your smartphone. If you have not yet installed Twilio Authy, CLICK HERE for installation instructions.
Note Before You Start: There will be references throughout Google’s systems for Google Authenticator. You may use this if you like, but this specific document is only covering Twilio’s Authy app. Anywhere you see Google Authenticator, you may substitute that for Twilio Authy.
How To
To add your Wycliffe Google account’s 2-Step Verification to Twilio Authy, you will need to perform the following steps.

Setup Twilio Authy

A new window will pop up for the Authenticator app setup.
Click the Set up authenticator button at the bottom.
You will be presented with a QR code to scan with your smart phone’s camera using the Twilio Authy app.
Leave this screen up, as you will be coming back to it shortly…
On Your Smartphone
Now you will need to get your smart phone out and open up the Twilio Authy app.
Tap on the Add Account + button
Tap the blue Scan QR Code button at the bottom of the screen.
Your phone may ask you to authorize Twilio Authy to use your camera.
Give it permission now to do so or you will not be able to continue.
Once Authy can access your camera, it will automatically show the camera screen.
Aim your camera at the QR code on your computer screen.
OPTIONAL: Add a Backup Password
If this is your first time setting up Twilio Authy, you will be prompted to add a backup password.
This will allow your accounts to be saved on Twilio’s servers in case something happens, such as your phone is lost or stolen, gets broken, or even if you change phones. You can simply log into Twilio Authy on the new device, enter the backup code you set here, and all of your accounts will be restored.
This is completely optional, but recommended.
Continuing from the previous step of scanning your first QR code into Twilio Authy…
If you wish to skip this step, tap Skip on the top right of the screen and then skip the next couple of steps.
To add a backup password
Type a password in the password field, then tap the red Enable Backups button
You will be prompted to confirm your backup password.
Type your backup password in once more, then tap OK
Give your account a nickname
To make sure you don’t confuse your Wycliffe Google Account with your Wycliffe Identity Account, or any other account you add to this app, you may want to give it a nickname.
You are able to edit the logo if you wish. Most major website or system logos are available for ease of viewing your list.
Note that both Google’s account and Wycliffe’s Identity Profile account have their own respective logos to help you visually see which account is which.
You may also rename the account to whatever you like. Make sure to keep it simple. This will also help when visually looking for your account on your screen if you add more accounts.
If you have multiple Google or Wycliffe accounts, ie: Wycliffe USA, SIL, etc, you may want to differentiate each one by noting the email address it’s associated with.
This is only a nickname, so you may call it whatever you like that helps you remember what account is what.
After you give it a nickname and choose the logo, you will be taken back to the main Twilio Authy account screen.
You will now see your newly added Google account on the main screen.
Back on your computer…
Once you have added your Wycliffe Google Account to the Twilio Authy app on your smartphone, click on the Next button on your computer screen.
Next you will need to type in the code that you see on the Twilio Authy app, located on your smartphone.
Notice the little timer next to the code. This code will change every 30 seconds.
NOTE: If it is nearing the end of its timer, just wait for a new code before typing it in. This will avoid failures between when the number changes and when you actually type it in.
Type in the code, then click the Verify button at the bottom.
Once you click on the Verify button, it will bring you back to the screen you started on, this time showing you that you have an Authenticator setup.
Congratulations! You have successfully added Twilio Authy as a secondary authentication method for your Wycliffe USA Google account!
Any time you are required to enter an authentication method for your Wycliffe USA Google account, you will be able to use either your security key or Twilio Authy.
