Twilio Authy Installation

v20220906.JS

Purpose and Scope

The purpose of this document is to explain how to install Twilio Authy (Authy) on your mobile device for use with your various Wycliffe USA accounts, including your Wycliffe Google and Wycliffe IDP accounts.

This document will only cover how to add the Authy app for your mobile device. This will not cover adding your various Wycliffe USA accounts to it.

This document assumes you have a mobile device ready to use for this process and access to the internet on your mobile device. This document also assumes you are capable of installing an app from your phone’s app store.

A note on signing up for Authy…

Unlike Google Authenticator, which doesn’t require any personal account information to use it, Authy requires you to sign up for an account in order to use it.

Authy is not affiliated with Wycliffe in any way. Authy is one of the leading 2-factor authentication tools used worldwide for 2-factor authentication codes.

So just know that using your phone number and even a personal email account (if you want) for verification and sign up, that it will in no way connect you to Wycliffe nor will Wycliffe have access to your personal information.

Since Authy can be used for more than just your Wycliffe accounts, you may want to create your account using a personal email address. This way if you ever leave Wycliffe, you will still have any other 2-factor codes you may have added over time to your Authy account.

Many banking, online shopping and even video games can use 2-factor authentication these days. You can use this to keep all of your personal accounts safe.

If you only plan to use this for Wycliffe, feel free to use your Wycliffe email address. Just keep in mind if you ever leave Wycliffe, you will lose access to any personal accounts you added to Authy during that time.

If you have any questions regarding the use of Authy, please contact the Wycliffe USA Helpdesk.

Installation

  • On your mobile device, open the corresponding app store for your operating system.

    • For Apple devices, look for the Apple App Store

    • For Android devices, look for the Google Play Store

  • In your app store's search field, type in Twilio Authy.

  • You should see the Authy app show up in the search. Its icon looks like the one below.

  • Once Authy is installed, locate it on your smartphone and tap the icon to run it.

  • Authy requires a personal account to be set up in order to use it.

  • Enter in your smartphone’s phone number and click Submit.

  • Authy will ask you to double check the phone number. Do so now and click Yes if it is correct.

  • Next you will need to add your email address. You may use a personal address or your Wycliffe address.

  • Click on Submit once you have finished entering your email address.

Next you will need to verify your account for first time use.

  • Look at the options and choose the one that best suits your needs.

We recommend just using the SMS message option. This will send an activation code via text to the phone number you entered previously.

  • Tap on the Receive SMS message button

You will see a message stating that it sent a verification code to the number you entered.

  • Next, switch over to check your phone’s text messages.

You should have received one that looks similar to the following screenshot:

You will see a message with a link you can click on, and also a 6-digit number you can manually enter.

  • Write down, or remember the 6-digit code so we can manually enter it in on the Authy app.

  • Next, switch back over to the Authy app.

  • Enter the 6-digit number

Once the number is successfully entered, it will take you to the main screen.

Now that you have finished setting Google Authenticator up on your mobile device, you are now ready to add your various Wycliffe USA accounts to it.
